I’m a creative director and designer based in Wellington. I work directly with business owners to help their brands feel right and communicate clearly.

My experience ranges from long-term involvement with Rocket Espresso to building identities for businesses with very different audiences. I enjoy getting to know what makes a business tick and finding a way to express it.
I help work out what is needed and take it through to the finished result. For some clients that is a defined project. For others, it becomes a continuing relationship.
You work with me directly. I stay involved in the decisions and the details.

My father, Joe Backhouse, was a furniture designer and maker. Growing up around his work gave me an appreciation for good design and products made with care.
That still influences me. I like work that has a purpose, where the details belong and nothing gets in the way of what matters.
Photography is another part of how I see things. Outside work, I spend time with family and get out on the bike with friends.
